Critical Healthcare announces the introduction of an
new impedance threshold device into the pre-hospital
emergency care environment in Ireland. The device,
ResQPOD is aimed at dramatically increasing
circulation and blood flow beyond what standard
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can accomplish.
Clinical Studies have shown that the ResQPOD can
double the flow of blood to the heart and brain and
therefore may increase survival rates with intact
brain function significantly.

Moreover,
the AHA released new guidelines for CPR and emergency
cardiac care at their annual meeting in 2005 that
included a Class IIa recommendation for an impedance
threshold device to enhance circulation during CPR.
The AHA said in its report at the time that the use
of an impedance threshold device (such as the
ResQPOD) had been shown to improve circulation during
CPR and increase the return of spontaneous
circulation (ROSC) in cardiac arrest patients. A
class IIa recommendation means than an Impedance
Threshold Device is more highly recommended by the
AHA than any other device or drug used by emergency
personnel for increasing circulation during CPR and
improving resuscitation rates. The ResQPOD is the
only impedance threshold device currently on the
market. In line with the 3rd edition of the Pre
Hospital Emergency Care Council Clinical Practice
Guidelines advanced paramedics in Ireland will soon
begin using this device when they perform CPR using
advanced airway techniques on patients in cardiac
arrest. The goal is to improve the rate of “Return of
Spontaneous Circulation” and ultimately, survival,
from cardiac arrest.
The ResQPod may be purchased in our Duramedic online
shop click here for more details.
